About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical and engineering support for field work and office work
- Perform engineering studies and design work and generate engineering study and field test reports
- Update client electrical drawings, including one-lines, wiring diagrams, and schematics, using AutoCAD or Bluebeam PDF Markups
- Collect field data and perform arc flash, coordination, and short circuit studies using SKM, ETAP, and/or EasyPower
- Perform additional studies and services, including load flow, harmonics, grounding, motor starting, buried cable heat rise, infrared scanning, and LOTO creation
- Apply knowledge of low- and medium-voltage switchgear, motor control centers, circuit breakers, panel boards, and disconnects to determine cost-effective mitigation solutions
- Develop relay protective setpoints and settings files
- Develop and/or implement arc flash mitigation designs
- Develop study reports and communicate results and recommendations to customers
- Support the field service team on electrical testing projects, including pre-service and maintenance testing
- Adhere to company, industry, client, and safety protocols and standards
- Assess project-specific resource needs and coordinate assignments with the project manager
- Learn to oversee projects from start to finish in compliance with company practices and procedures
- Manage expenses against project budgets and recommend expense reductions
- Coordinate project handoffs between sales and operations/engineering
- Participate in project kickoff meetings covering scope, specifications, budgets, schedules, and safety requirements
- Coordinate activities effectively with other departments
- Execute small- to medium-sized projects with limited oversight
- Ensure timely and accurate engineering project invoicing and provide required paperwork, including SAFs, weekly timekeeping, change-order documentation, and test reports
- Maintain required project documentation and records
Requirements
What you’ll need- BS Degree in Electrical Engineering OR Electrical Engineering Technologist Certification
- 0 to 2 years of experience in power systems engineering or experience directly related to working with electricity
- Ability to effectively communicate with internal, client, and regulatory counterparts
- Ability to maintain production in a changing environment
- Knowledge of CEC/OESC, Z462, and other applicable codes and standards
- Strong computer and communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Willingness to learn and operate client-provided programs and systems
- Ability to carry out written or oral instructions and deal with problems involving several concrete variables
- Ability to perform computations involving electrical power
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, identify urgent issues, develop project plans, order resources and materials, hold job kickoff meetings, and identify changes in work scopes
- Ability to examine information, facts, and data and draw logical conclusions
- Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple project assignments simultaneously
- Safety-focused approach
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk, hear, and use fingers and hands for up to 75% of the time
- Ability to spend full days on feet and work on uneven ground during site inspections
- Frequent use of a computer and smartphone for communication
