About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design power utility substations using applicable codes and client standards.
- Develop general arrangements, equipment and electrical layouts, elevation views, cable trenches, grounding and conduit drawings, details, bills of materials, and AC/DC power systems.
- Design ground grids using applicable codes and industry software.
- Design lightning protection and grounding plans.
- Complete AC/DC load, bus span, and ampacity calculations.
- Create equipment and material specifications for procurement, design scopes, and cost estimates.
- Complete conceptual designs and layouts for facility planning studies.
- Prepare support documentation for procurement, construction, and operation/maintenance.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, vendors, and contractors.
- Lead and participate in client meetings and job site visits.
- Ensure compliance with QA/QC processes and review and approve engineering design packages.
- Mentor and provide technical oversight to junior engineers and designers.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
- 15+ years of experience in Substation physical design engineering.
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) License.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent document management and organization skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact professionally with clients and stakeholders.
