About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support acceptance testing and routine maintenance of transmission and distribution substation power equipment
  • Test relaying systems, including electromechanical, solid state and microprocessor relays
  • Test pilot channel equipment, controls and communications equipment
  • Verify local and SCADA metering
  • Calibrate relays
  • Perform local and SCADA trip testing
  • Test digital fault recorders (DFRs), sequence of event recorders (SERs), and end-to-end line relay systems
  • Apply test procedures for various types of relay test equipment
  • Support assigned teams in executing work plans safely and efficiently
  • Maintain substation awareness and safety consciousness
  • Provide PC support for testing activities as required by the project lead

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Knowledge of 3 phase power systems
  • Knowledge of power system protection and control schemes
  • Knowledge of test equipment and test equipment software
  • Field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes preferred
  • Knowledge of test equipment and tool/wiring usage
  • Ability to interpret wiring and elementary diagrams
  • Basic test skills
  • Basic PC skills
  • Ability to learn and apply client switching procedures and safety measures under direct supervision
  • Ability to reference and complete assignments as described in applicable specifications
  • Ability to perform regular field work indoors and outdoors
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment
  • Ability to push, pull, lift and bend in all types of weather extremes
  • Ability to lift at least 30 lbs. without assistance
  • Associate of Science in Electrical Technology (AET) or equivalent specialized training in system protection
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
