About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Utilize electrical theory in applying methods and troubleshooting related to test procedures for client protection and control systems and schemes
  • Design substations using applicable codes and client standards
  • Produce general arrangements, equipment and electrical layouts, elevation views, cable trenches, grounding, conduit drawings, details, bills of material, and AC/DC power systems
  • Design ground grids using applicable codes and industry software
  • Complete AC/DC load, bus span, and ampacity calculations
  • Create equipment and material specifications for procurement of engineered equipment
  • Develop design scopes and cost estimates
  • Complete conceptual designs and layouts for facility planning studies
  • Direct and/or participate in client meetings and job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data
  • Perform and ensure compliance with company QA/QC processes for design packages

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate of Science in Electrical Technology (AET) or equivalent specialized training in system protection
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes
  • Experience in handling simple volt-ohm-meter and working with hand tools
  • Experience in reading and interpreting One Line, AC & DC Elementary and Wiring diagrams
  • Proficient computer, computer network, and Android/iPhone app skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Experience mapping drive letters for server connections
  • Experience obtaining, installing, and connecting handheld device apps to “The Cloud” or other locations as required
  • Ability to perform regular field work in various work environments, conditions and weather
  • Ability to learn and apply client’s switching procedures and safety measures under direct supervision
  • Ability to reference and complete assignments as described in applicable specifications
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment
  • Ability to perform physical activity such as pushing, pulling, lifting and bending in all types of weather extremes
  • Ability to lift at least 30 lbs. without assistance
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
