About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare and review mechanical design drawings for substations and related facilities, including site layouts, building plans, HVAC, plumbing, air/gas piping, fire protection systems, diesel generator buildings, and equipment details
  • Prepare and review design documents and calculations, including design basis and standards, equipment specifications, diesel genset sizing, fire separation, testing and acceptance procedures, and field review documentation
  • Review vendor documents against specifications
  • Lead projects from conception through construction and commissioning
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers
  • Coordinate resource planning, scope, schedule, and budget for the project discipline team
  • Coordinate construction and commissioning activities with utility clients and subcontractors
  • Respond to construction-site requests and complete project documentation, including as-builts, calculations, and client data
  • Travel to site and liaise with internal groups, external contractors, and clients
  • Maintain relationships with internal groups, contractors, and clients
  • Integrate current safe practices and methods into designs
  • Collaborate with Civil, Structural, Architectural, Electrical, and other engineering disciplines

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university
  • Canadian Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.) or ability to register as a Professional Engineer with EGBC
  • 8-10+ years of mechanical engineering experience related to HVAC systems
  • Strong understanding of regulatory codes and standards, including NBC-AB Edition, NECB, ASHRAE, NFPA, API, and SMACNA
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship
  • Experience with mechanical design for utility substations preferred
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States considered an asset
