About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Contribute to structural design, technical support and quality assurance/quality control review for substation facilities, transmission towers and poles, and control room and indoor GIS switchgear buildings
- Perform structural analysis and modeling using SAP2000, LPILE, SAFE, and MathCAD
- Prepare and review detailed design documents, including design basis, design reports, design plans, construction specifications, field review plans and reports
- Review vendor documents against specifications
- Respond to construction-site requests and complete project documentation, including as-builts, calculations, and returning data to clients
- Coordinate and oversee project resource planning, scope, schedule, and budget for a structural discipline project team
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with external business partners; present information and respond to client questions
- Direct and/or participate in client meetings and job site visits
- Mentor less experienced engineering team members
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery
Requirements
What you’ll need- Structural Engineering Degree from a recognized university
- Canadian Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.) or the ability to register as a Professional Engineer with EGBC
- 8-10+ years of structural engineering design experience
- Experience with structural design for utility substations, particularly projects for BC Hydro is considered an asset
- Knowledge of applicable Canadian codes and standards, including Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and CSA standards, as well as North American transmission structure design standards
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
