About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own and manage critical business processes across Qualus’ standard ownership domains
  • Direct, train, coordinate, and provide oversight of overhead transmission engineering operations
  • Serve as functional leader of the service line
  • Manage service line financials
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Implement best-practice engineering methods
  • Develop training programs and train service line employees
  • Interact with other service lines to bid on and complete projects, cross-train employees, and share best practices
  • Provide technical guidance to engineering teams and top management
  • Develop goals and strategies supporting organizational objectives
  • Create and develop drawing packages for bidding, construction, as-built, and submittal purposes
  • Ensure the service line has necessary software, hardware, and field tools
  • Develop and advance the company vision for the service line
  • Support employee satisfaction and engagement
  • Improve cost efficiency
  • Assist with development and preparation of project scopes, budgets, and schedules
  • Remain current on regulations, laws, standards, and best practices, including Standards of Conduct, RUS Design Guidelines, the National Electric Safety Code, and General Order 95
  • Provide technical direction and assistance as required
  • Set engineering policies and practices for company-wide implementation
  • Ensure adherence to QA/QC policies
  • Support business development and pursuit activities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or another similarly related engineering discipline
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer
  • Ten (10) or more years of engineering experience, preferably related to utility infrastructure design
  • Minimum of three (3) years of management experience leading engineering teams
  • Extensive and thorough knowledge of engineering design for the service line and related fields
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable design software
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices, including computer applications
  • Extensive knowledge of field techniques for construction
  • Extensive knowledge of surveying techniques, practices, and procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of safe working practices related to electric transmission lines
  • Extensive knowledge of project management practices and financials
  • Advanced knowledge of standard business applications, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and appropriate stakeholders
  • Action-mindset and ability to move from thinking about something to doing it
  • Strong team player with willingness to seek input from others
  • Ability to successfully plan and accomplish tasks within an established timeline
  • Ability to analyze problems and develop effective solutions at strategic and functional levels
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% annually
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
