About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the organization’s export control, national security compliance, and broader compliance programs
- Establish strategic direction, priorities, and the operating model for compliance activities
- Own and manage export control policies, procedures, training, and internal controls
- Develop and maintain long-term export control and compliance strategy
- Lead commodity jurisdiction and ECCN/USML classification determinations
- Manage export license applications, TAAs, MLAs, license exceptions, and exemptions
- Oversee deemed export compliance, technology access controls, and foreign national management
- Direct restricted-party screening and end-use/end-user assessments
- Monitor and implement changes to EAR, ITAR, OFAC sanctions, and related regulations
- Manage voluntary self-disclosures and respond to BIS, DDTC, OFAC, and other government inquiries
- Serve as primary contact for regulatory bodies and represent the company in audits, investigations, and regulatory engagements
- Provide strategic compliance guidance to executive leadership on expansion, partnerships, acquisitions, technology development, and market entry
- Oversee compliance operations, including training calendars, audit tracking, policy rollouts, and reporting
- Establish compliance objectives, KPIs, and strategic priorities
- Maintain anticorruption, import, procurement, and conflict-of-interest programs
- Conduct and oversee recurring compliance risk assessments and internal audits
- Prepare and present compliance reports to senior leadership and the board
- Manage and develop the Principal Export Control Specialist and Compliance Project Manager
- Build organization-wide compliance awareness with engineering, product, supply chain, HR, and business development teams
- Drive compliance-related organizational change and establish governance, escalation, and decision-making frameworks
Requirements
What you’ll need- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required
- Minimum 10+ years of export control and government compliance experience at technology and defense companies
- Minimum 7+ years of experience managing relationships with BIS, DDTC, OFAC, or equivalent government agencies
- Minimum 7+ years of experience with commodity jurisdiction, classification (ECCN/USML), licensing, deemed exports, and voluntary disclosures
- Minimum 7+ years of experience with EAR, ITAR, OFAC sanctions, and related regulatory frameworks
- People management experience, including building and leading compliance teams
- Must be a U.S. Person: U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, or worker granted asylum or refugee status
- Must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless also a U.S. citizen
- ECTI certification valued
- Experience with technology control plans and classified program compliance valued
- Familiarity with FAR and DFARS valued
- Experience implementing visual compliance and OCR screening tools valued
- Must submit to a pre-employment drug test if placed in a safety-sensitive position
