- Use 3D printing, laser cutting, manual and CNC machining, or hand tools to build prototypes
- Assemble, debug, and rework hardware on the bench alongside technicians
- Iterate rapidly through build, testing, learning, and improvement cycles
- Start designs with sketches, free-body diagrams, and hand calculations
- Size springs, motors, bearings, shafts, and fasteners based on loads, energy, and duty cycle
- Choose materials and finishes based on strength, stiffness, wear, fatigue, and cost
- Perform tolerance stack-ups on critical interfaces
- Write test plans, instrument builds, and collect reliable data
- Compare test results with calculations and identify root causes of failures
- Document learnings for future engineers
- Create CAD parts and release manufacturable drawings
- Learn and apply design for manufacturing with suppliers and senior engineers
- Integrate motors, sensors, and harnesses with electrical and software engineers
- Help transition prototypes into reliable 24/7 pharmacy systems
Requirements
What you’ll need- Portfolio of hardware designed and physically made, including photos and video of projects, failures, and changes made
- 0–3 years of hands-on mechanical or mechatronic engineering experience, in industry or out of it
- Working command of statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, and machine design
- Ability to go from a sketch to a free-body diagram to a number and defend the number
- Ability to explain material, mechanism, and tolerance choices and tradeoffs
- Comfortable with 3D printers, hand tools, and basic machining
- Ability to debug with a caliper and a multimeter
- Solid part and assembly modeling in a 3D CAD platform such as OnShape, SolidWorks, or Creo
- Ability to create drawings clear enough to build from
- Ownership, ability to finish work, acknowledge knowledge gaps, and learn from feedback
- Nice to have: mechanisms with moving parts, mechatronics basics, tolerance analysis and GD&T, manufacturing methods, Python or MATLAB, and FEA
- Ability to work from HQ three days a week
