About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build and own edge software that runs on Queue's prescription-filling robots
  • Develop hardware links to motor boards and controllers over CAN, serial, USB and Ethernet
  • Design and test framing, timing, error handling and reconnect behavior
  • Build fill-sequencing state machines from intake through completion or safe stoppage
  • Version and maintain contracts with microcontrollers and the vision service
  • Coordinate software requirements for the machine's Linux image with image owners
  • Define field reporting, remote diagnosis, software delivery and rollback behavior
  • Design failure paths first and verify fail-closed behavior on the bench
  • Collaborate with firmware, vision, platform and systems reliability engineers
  • Report to the Head of Software Engineering
  • Take changes from design through release to bench machines, with failure paths tested first

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Production experience writing C, C++ or Rust on Linux
  • Ownership of shipped software from design through field faults
  • Hardware integration over CAN, RS-485, serial links and USB
  • Experience debugging hardware links with an analyzer
  • Real-time orchestration and state machines
  • Experience sequencing motion, sensing and I/O where partial failure is normal
  • MCU boundary literacy and versioned device protocols
  • Substantial embedded Linux integration experience, including services, devices, start-up, configuration and updates
  • Experience running connected devices in the field, including updates, remote diagnostics, telemetry and recovery
  • Rust in production preferred
  • Industrial x86 and ARM platforms in a shipped product nice to have
  • Embedded Linux distribution ownership nice to have
  • Kernel and board bring-up nice to have
  • Hardened device platforms nice to have
  • NVIDIA Jetson, JetPack, Linux for Tegra and secure boot nice to have
  • Experience in robotics, medical devices, automotive or industrial automation nice to have

Benefits

Comp & perks
  • Ownership of hard parts of the edge software end to end
  • Small team, zero bureaucracy, high trust
  • Significant autonomy and influence
  • Direct impact on machine hardware and field behavior
  • Growth across hardware links, software, and field machines
