About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead technical design decisions across Online and Mobile Banking
- Translate business and product requirements into practical high- and low-level designs
- Guide engineers on architecture, technology choices, patterns and implementation
- Partner with Product, Engineering and Architecture to assess technical risks, dependencies and cross-squad impacts
- Design solutions using React, Kotlin, Swift, Java Spring Boot, REST APIs and microservices
- Apply API-first, event-driven and cloud-native engineering principles
- Build security, resilience, performance, accessibility and operability into solution designs
- Identify cross-squad dependencies, technical risks and opportunities for reuse
- Review designs and engineering standards; support code reviews and DevOps practices
- Partner with architects while remaining closely connected to engineering delivery
- Coach engineers and influence technical decisions across Client Experience
Requirements
What you’ll need- Deep software engineering experience and strong technical design capability
- Experience designing customer-facing web or mobile applications in a complex environment
- Strong knowledge of React, Kotlin, Swift and/or Java Spring Boot
- Experience with REST APIs, microservices, Kafka and event-driven architecture
- Cloud and DevOps experience, ideally including Azure, Azure DevOps, containers and CI/CD
- Strong understanding of security, identity and access management, OAuth, resilience and performance
- Experience creating and reviewing high- and low-level technical designs
- Ability to influence technical decisions and communicate clearly with engineers and nontechnical stakeholders
- Experience using modern AI coding tools, such as GitHub Copilot or equivalent
- Understanding of modern AI engineering concepts, including LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, agentic workflows, evaluation and responsible AI
- Financial services, digital banking or Open Banking experience highly regarded
