About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, implement and support health and safety, crisis management, environmental, loss control, risk management and sustainability strategies
  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry peers
  • Integrate health, safety, crisis management and environmental issues into management and union practices and daily business operations
  • Participate in and influence applicable legislative and regulatory changes
  • Ensure implementation and coordination of national emergency preparedness, business continuity and corporate security policies, standards and procedures
  • Manage a team of nine direct reports
  • Define corporate strategies, objectives and priorities for health, safety, environment and sustainability
  • Develop, implement and evaluate policies, programs, procedures and guidelines
  • Oversee CBC/Radio-Canada’s crisis management portfolio, including emergency preparedness, business continuity and corporate security
  • Monitor compliance with legislation, regulations and organizational policies
  • Manage hazard identification, assessment and control programs
  • Facilitate joint union/management and local workplace health and safety committees
  • Define training requirements, course content, resources, audiences and delivery methods; manage the corporate training budget
  • Oversee health, safety, environment and crisis management resources and advisory services
  • Promote organizational health, safety, crisis management, sustainability and environmental objectives and programs
  • Represent CBC/Radio-Canada with government departments, public security authorities and external organizations
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports and track legislative and regulatory changes
  • Participate in internal and external health and safety committees
  • Maintain internal and external communications and documentation
  • Develop and present information sessions on health and safety policies, procedures and guidelines

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences, Business Administration, engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
  • 15+ years of professional experience in a senior health and safety role
  • 5 years of experience managing professional and technical staff, preferably within large, complex organizations
  • Fluent bilingualism (English/French)
  • Active Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Environmental Professional (EP) or Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP) designation an asset
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities under pressure to meet tight deadlines and urgent requests
  • Ability to provide clear, concise recommendations, analytical insights and interpretations of complex matters to senior management
  • Strong analytical skills, sound judgment and schedule flexibility
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to stay current on applicable legislation, regulations and industry best practices
  • Practical knowledge of federal or provincial health, safety and environment legislation an asset
  • Experience managing health and safety requirements for large-scale international events an asset
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Occasional travel is required
  • Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing
  • Successful candidates must complete a mandatory criminal record check and may undergo other background checks
