About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform regulatory compliance activities required for the development and installation of airborne equipment and systems onto transport category aircraft
- Ensure product- and system-level certification complies with applicable airworthiness requirements
- Prepare complete substantiation data deliverables
- Work with product development, systems engineering, aircraft system integrators and customers to identify and document test levels for environmental, electrical and flammability testing
- Develop, review, approve and release certification documents
- Prepare flammability assessments, qualification test plans, procedures and reports, comparative analyses, statements of similarity and fungus-resistance documentation
- Prepare product Functional Hazard Assessments and system-level System Safety Assessments
- Work with integrators and customers to obtain regulatory approval of certification data packages
- Specify equipment and accessories needed for test execution
- Coordinate qualification testing quotes and schedules with project management, certification and qualification engineers and test labs
- Conduct research and root cause analysis for Failure Reporting and Corrective Action (FRACA) reports
- Coordinate formal qualification test readiness, test article conformity inspections and test setup conformity inspections
- Assemble documentation for conformity inspections with Quality and Program Management
- Coordinate regulatory approval of IFE system installation design data and components
- Organize certification status meeting presentations
- Represent the company and interface directly with the FAA and customers
- Advise management on airworthiness issues related to product design and manufacturing
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in a related field
- 6-10 years of experience working in a similar role
- Experience designing, manufacturing and certifying aircraft components and systems
- Experience working in product or system-level certification environments, interfacing with FAA or EASA
- Experience working in an AS9100 quality environment
- In-depth knowledge of industry-standard RTCA and airframe manufacturer qualification requirements
- Familiarity with FAA Part 21, 23 and 25 and EASA CS Part 21 and 25 certification requirements related to airborne IFE equipment
- In-depth working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- In-depth knowledge of Electrical/EMI test procedures, potential challenges and mitigation techniques
- Familiarity with temperature and pressure chambers
- Familiarity with vibration and acceleration test equipment
- Familiarity with EMI test setup and wiring
- Familiarity with feedback devices such as accelerometers and thermocouples
- In-depth knowledge of airframe manufacturer requirements for cabin interiors
- In-depth knowledge of FAA 14 CFRs and EASA requirements, including flammability
- Knowledge of HIC
- Knowledge of STC, RFC, PMA and Minor Change approval processes
- In-depth knowledge of AS9100 quality system requirements
