About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Collaborate with frontend and design teams to understand project requirements and translate them into backend functionality
Develop custom Magento modules and extensions using PHP and Magento 2 coding standards
Implement and configure Magento backend features including customer management, order processing, inventory management, and payment gateways
Integrate and customize third-party systems and APIs including ERPs, CRMs, and payment gateways
Optimize backend performance through caching mechanisms, database optimization, and efficient coding practices
Conduct testing and debugging to ensure high-quality backend deliverables
Collaborate with the QA team to resolve backend issues and bugs
Identify performance bottlenecks and implement improvements including caching strategies and database tuning
Stay updated with Magento 2 backend development practices, tools, and technologies
Provide guidance and support to junior backend developers when applicable
Follow Magento backend security best practices, including secure coding, ACL, CSRF/XSS protection, and role-based access
Configure Cloudflare for firewall rules, DDoS protection, rate limiting, bot mitigation, and spam prevention
Monitor website performance and prioritize Core Web Vitals scores
Optimize Redis caching, configure Varnish full-page caching, manage RabbitMQ asynchronous messaging, and ensure efficient search functionality

Requirements

What you’ll need

Minimum of 5-6 years of overall web development experience
5 years of experience working specifically with Magento 2 backend development
Experience developing custom modules and extensions for Magento 2
Experience integrating third-party systems and APIs with Magento 2
Proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL
Deep knowledge of Magento 2 (Open Source and/or Adobe Commerce)
Knowledge of Magento 2 architecture and database structure
Experience with Magento 2 REST, GraphQL, asynchronous, and bulk APIs
Understanding of Magento 2 indexing, cron jobs, and caching architecture
Understanding of UI Components and KnockoutJS for backend rendering
Experience with Varnish Cache, Redis, and Fastly
Experience with RabbitMQ
Experience with Elasticsearch/OpenSearch and Adobe Live Search or standard Elastic-powered search
Magento 2 Developer Certification is optional
Optional skills: PHPUnit, Cloudflare, and New Relic
Bonus experience with Hyvä Theme, Hyvä Checkout, Adobe Commerce modules (B2B, MSI, Page Builder), Docker-based tools (Warden, DDEV, or Docker Compose), and headless Magento setups (PWA Studio, custom APIs, or frontend decoupling)
