About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct top-level review of tax returns and resolve tax issues with clients
- Ensure clients comply with applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens
- Ensure compliance with firm policies, standards, and tax quality control policies
- Plan and review tax processes and procedures, including budgeting and staffing
- Monitor engagement processes and actual time against budget
- Manage timely billing, out-of-scope activity, and accounts receivable collection
- Manage client relationships and expectations
- Provide timely tax advice to clients
- Identify, frame, research, analyze, and report tax issues
- Prepare written tax advice and tax returns
- Apply ASC 740-10, FAS 109, and FIN 48 requirements
- Explain income tax provisions and uncertain tax positions to clients
- Coordinate tax accrual reviews with Assurance counterparts
- Prepare provision workpapers and footnote disclosures
- Develop and implement tax consulting methods to reduce client tax liabilities
- Provide exam support and technical tax resources
- Delegate consulting projects and issues to seniors and associates
- Gather information for controversy work and document tax positions in GoFileRoom
- Supervise associates, senior associates, and supervisors
- Review staff work and provide review comments
- Train staff on current software tools
- Act as a career advisor and manage staff workloads
- Provide verbal and written performance feedback
- Grow marketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other relevant field required
- CPA certification, Attorney admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction, or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA), or equivalent, required
- Four (4) to Five (5) years of prior experience
- Prior supervisory experience required
- Experience with corporate taxation, consolidations, and partnerships preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat
- Experience with tax research databases such as BNA and RIA
- Proficiency in tax compliance process software including GoFileRoom, FirmFlow, Caseware, BNA Depreciation Software, or comparable programs and standard tax workpapers
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively delegate work as needed
- Strong analytical, research, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
- Capacity to work well in a team environment
- Capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals
- Ability to compose written tax advice
- Capable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationships
- Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clients
- Travel to client sites and offices as needed
