About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the full lifecycle of client-facing SaaS products hosted on AWS, from infrastructure design and deployment through operation, optimization, and support
- Architect, implement, and maintain scalable, resilient AWS environments across compute, storage, networking, databases, and backups
- Maintain separation across development, staging, and production environments
- Lead high-availability and disaster-recovery design, including backup, failover, and recovery procedures
- Manage infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and controlled environment promotion
- Own observability through metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting
- Improve platform performance and cost efficiency through FinOps
- Maintain and mature the platform security posture and audit readiness
- Own SOC 2 compliance, partnering with Information Security and external auditors
- Enforce least-privilege IAM, encryption, secrets management, and tamper-evident audit logging
- Coordinate penetration testing, vulnerability management, and remediation
- Support secure integration and operation of AI/ML and LLM-enabled product features
- Partner with engineering and data teams to productionize AI capabilities with data classification, DLP, and human-in-the-loop controls
- Establish SLAs, incident response playbooks, on-call coverage, and production runbooks
- Serve as senior escalation point for platform incidents and communicate with clients
- Own change management, release governance, and post-incident reviews
- Lead and mentor the external IT/platform engineering team
- Partner with Information Security, Product, and client-facing teams
- Communicate platform health, risk, and roadmap to technical teams and executive stakeholders
- Manage AWS and supporting-service vendor relationships
Requirements
What you’ll need- Hands-on track record personally implementing and operating a product on AWS infrastructure
- Experience implementing a product on AWS, including compute, networking, databases, IAM, and infrastructure-as-code, from build through production operation
- 7+ years in IT, platform engineering, or cloud operations
- 3+ years operating production workloads in AWS
- Leadership or people-management experience, ideally leading external IT, DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering functions
- Strong working knowledge of SOC 2 and practical implementation of underlying controls
- Experience with Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud security best practices
- Proven ownership of production reliability, including SLAs, incident response, on-call, and HA/DR
- Excellent communication skills with technical teams and C-suite stakeholders
- Experience delivering a client-facing/commercial SaaS product
- Experience productionizing AI/LLM-enabled features and governing AI usage, data handling, and cost
- Familiarity with regulated or enterprise-client environments, including HIPAA-adjacent, GDPR, or GxP
- Experience with containerization/orchestration, ECS/Fargate, EKS, AWS Lambda, and observability tooling
- Relevant certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, AWS DevOps, AWS Security, CISSP, or CCSP
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience
