About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own Shopify checkout and post-purchase features across checkout, thank-you, customer-account, and post-purchase surfaces
Build and maintain Shopify extensions and server-side code that determines displayed offers
Work within Shopify runtime constraints including bundle size, sandboxed APIs, and strict review
Rebuild experimentation reporting for Smart Flows and A/B Testing
Design data models, PHP and TypeScript endpoints, and BigQuery/MySQL queries
Build secure, well-structured REST APIs in PHP and TypeScript for extensions, admin, and Shopify integrations
Use GraphQL to communicate with Shopify
Investigate merchant-reported production problems and identify root causes
Improve logging and metrics and participate in rotating on-call
Use Anthropic Claude Code across development, review, and testing
Perform unit, end-to-end, manual, and real-Shopify-store testing without a separate QA handoff
Review code and contribute to technical decisions beyond immediate surfaces
Mentor by example and route ad hoc requests through the Product Manager for prioritization
Collaborate directly with the Product Manager and engineering peers in a small, high-autonomy team

Requirements

What you’ll need

Staff-level ownership with minimal specification and ability to drive technical decisions or migrations end-to-end across multiple systems or teams
Fluent daily use of AI coding tools and judgment to evaluate their output
Strong troubleshooting skills in unfamiliar codebases using TypeScript or PHP
8+ years building production web applications
Hands-on experience shipping and maintaining PHP (CodeIgniter 4 or comparable MVC framework) and TypeScript with React
Experience owning a revenue-critical, customer-facing production system, including logs, metrics, escalations, and incident resolution
Hands-on BigQuery experience on Google Cloud or another columnar warehouse, including analytical queries and cost awareness
Comfort with MySQL schema design and migrations
Testing discipline across unit and end-to-end suites, including self-directed QA
Secure coding fundamentals for buyer and order data, including OWASP Top 10
Track record with orchestration and platform-wide, componentized systems
Fit for a remote-first, high-autonomy culture and responsiveness on Slack during working hours
Educational background in CS/Engineering or similar area, or equivalent experience
Preferred: Shopify app development, especially Checkout Extensibility, post-purchase extensions, or Admin and Storefront GraphQL APIs
Preferred: experience with tightly constrained runtimes such as React Native
Preferred: Preact
Preferred: comfort with Kanban and Sprint-based workflows
