About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the architecture of real-time fraud-decisioning services that score transactions, logins, and account changes within sub-second SLAs.
  • Own the fraud rules engine, including rule versioning, shadow/canary rollouts, and analyst testing tools.
  • Partner with Data Science to productionize fraud-detection models through low-latency feature pipelines and serving infrastructure.
  • Design Kafka event-driven pipelines for transaction, device, and behavioral signals with ordering, idempotency, and exactly-once guarantees where required.
  • Build audit trail and explainability layers for fraud decisions to support regulators, card networks, and dispute teams.
  • Mentor engineers and champion coding, system design, and incident-response best practices.
  • Solve high-scope, complex, ambiguous technical problems involving financial exposure.
  • Promote AI-assisted engineering practices using code generation, automated refactoring, and technical documentation tools.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Academic background oriented toward computer science, engineering, or software development disciplines.
  • Track record of success in hands-on backend engineering roles, developing with Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and AWS.
  • Experience designing or operating real-time decisioning, scoring, or rules-engine systems under strict latency budgets.
  • Hands-on experience with fraud, risk, or trust & safety systems — e.g. transaction scoring, device fingerprinting, velocity/anomaly detection, or chargeback and dispute pipelines.
  • Solid understanding of event-driven architectures and streaming data (Kafka), including ordering, idempotency, and exactly-once semantics.
  • Knowledge of relational database systems, Object-Oriented Programming, and Domain-Driven Design; familiarity with microservice architecture is a plus.
  • Ability to translate compliance and audit requirements (e.g. BACEN, LGPD, PCI-DSS) into resilient, explainable system design.
  • Experience conducting code reviews, driving knowledge sharing, and promoting collaborative development practices.
  • Proven ability to design complex distributed applications built for high performance, throughput, scalability, and reliability.
  • Practical experience applying AI frameworks in development projects.
  • Experience in Python is a plus.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving, with a proactive approach to closing technical and process gaps before they turn into losses.
  • High degree of autonomy and accountability, capable of leading technical decisions with minimal supervision, even under financial and regulatory pressure.
  • Proven mentorship capabilities, fostering the growth of junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Strong communication skills, able to explain fraud-engineering trade-offs to both technical peers and Risk/Compliance stakeholders.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated influence in shaping engineering practices and elevating team-wide technical standards.
