About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide professional nursing care according to individual patient needs and the Illinois Nurse Practice Act
- Manage daily office operations and coordinate patient care with care team members, Clinic departments, hospitals, nursing homes, pharmacies and home care agencies
- Interview patients, obtain nursing histories, assess health knowledge, collect complaints, vital signs and diagnostic test results, and document findings in medical records
- Advocate for patients and address service complaints
- Evaluate referrals to other agencies and providers
- Screen patient problems in person or by phone and resolve through advice or physician referral
- Provide and document education on prevention, health maintenance, diseases, medications, home care, and pre/postoperative procedures
- Administer respiratory treatments, irrigations and medications by all routes except chemotherapy until certification is obtained
- Administer chemotherapy after obtaining the Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Certification
- Collect specimens, provide coding, apply and remove casts, perform catheterization, suture removal and dressing changes
- Assist physicians with examinations and treatments according to Infection Control Policy
- Orient new personnel and serve as a nursing resource throughout the Clinic
- Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families
- Serve on the STAT Code Team and may direct the team and educate staff
- Coordinate nursing care and perform insurance pre-certifications/referrals
- Maintain professional standards, patient and staff confidentiality, and current clinical knowledge
- Comply with incident reporting, OSHA, training, customer service, conduct and ethics requirements
- Perform other assigned duties
- Reports to the Operations Manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- Educated as a registered nurse by attaining an ADN, diploma or BSN
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois
- Must obtain the Oncology Nursing Certification through the Oncology Nursing Society or meet the 12 hours of Oncology specific continuing education annually; new hires or transfers have until the end of the calendar year following hire or transfer
- ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Administration Certificate required within six months of hire
- CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire
- Ability to assume accountability and responsibility for own practice and delegated duties
- Ability to practice independent nursing consistent with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act
- Ability to serve on appropriate committees
- Must adhere to OSHA and Springfield Clinic training requirements
- HIPAA1 privacy level
