About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the platform’s technical direction, architecture, data model, security, testing, and code review
- Approve everything that ships, while the product founder signs off on visual changes
- Set up the test framework using Vitest, Playwright, and GitHub Actions as a merge gate
- Build and maintain foundations including Postgres with row-level security, authentication, Stripe billing, background jobs, transactional email, and third-party integrations
- Lead the launch of the new platform and migrate 60 customers from GoHighLevel without losing data
- Run a two-week parallel migration period
- Own production error tracking, logging, alerts, incident response, performance, and cost control
- Document the platform and help hire and lead the next engineer
- In the first 90 days, learn the code and build plan, ship a small fix, review everything that ships, own security and data protection, lead the launch, and migrate customers
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years as a professional software engineer
- 2+ years building and running a multi-tenant SaaS product in production
- Strong TypeScript, React 19, and Next.js App Router skills, including Server Components, Server Actions, streaming, and caching in Next.js 15/16
- Strong Postgres skills beyond the ORM, including schema design, migrations, indexing, query performance, and row-level security
- Production Stripe experience with subscriptions, webhooks, idempotency, and usage- or credit-based billing
- Experience with background jobs and queues such as Inngest, Trigger.dev, or BullMQ
- Experience with automated testing as a release gate, CI, and Vercel preview deployments
- Production ownership using Sentry or similar
- Daily, disciplined use of agentic AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex
- Ability to make small PRs, write tests before merging, and read the diff
- Experience reviewing others’ code as the gate to production
- Experience mentoring less experienced builders
- Ability to work as the only engineer and pick up work independently
- Ability to explain technical risk in plain English with options and a recommendation
- Nice to have: LLM APIs such as Anthropic or OpenAI, customer and data migrations, large external datasets, third-party data APIs, multi-tenant security fundamentals, OWASP Top 10, secrets, audit logging, UK GDPR, GoHighLevel, Resend, MapLibre, SEO, and Core Web Vitals
