About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, build, and maintain Android applications for swarm planning, monitoring, and tactical control
- Integrate and render GIS data layers and DTED elevation models in map-based mission-planning interfaces
- Implement real-time telemetry, command, and control over UDP, TCP, WebSockets, MQTT, or similar transports
- Support mesh-radio and cellular links in constrained tactical environments
- Collaborate with backend, autonomy, and field engineers
- Ship features for operators and support field exercises and customer demonstrations
- Incorporate direct field feedback into the product roadmap
- Travel for field testing and demonstrations as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7+ years of professional Android development experience, primarily in Kotlin; Java acceptable as a secondary language
- Strong proficiency with Jetpack components, coroutines, and lifecycle-aware architecture
- Hands-on experience integrating and rendering mobile GIS data, including map tiles, vector overlays, WGS84, MGRS, and UTM
- Experience consuming DTED for line-of-sight, terrain-following, or viewshed features
- Working knowledge of osmdroid, MapLibre, Mapbox, or Google Maps SDK
- Familiarity with georeferenced rasters, map projections, and coordinate transformations
- Experience with low-latency Android data pipelines using sockets, WebSockets, MQTT, gRPC, or Protobuf
- Strong multithreading and offline-first design skills
- Experience designing ruggedized-device UIs for sunlight, gloved operation, and unreliable networks
- Ability to work cross-functionally and independently with limited oversight
- Ability to remain calm under operational pressure
- BS in Computer Science or related field (desired)
- U.S. security clearance or ability to obtain one (desired)
- Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence for ITAR/EAR-restricted work
- Must not require sponsorship for export-restricted work authorization
- Successful completion of a post-offer background check
- Must be able to walk, stand, and navigate large indoor and outdoor facilities for extended periods
- Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment weighing up to 25 lbs regularly
- PPE may be required in designated areas
- May need to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch
- Occasional off-hours or weekend work may be required
- Travel up to 25% of the time may be required
