About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide medical direction and oversight of clinical services
- Collaborate with the Clinical Director and program leaders to establish clinical expectations and address treatment barriers
- Provide medical consultation and guidance to psychiatric providers and clinical staff
- Participate in leadership meetings, treatment team meetings, and complex case consultations
- Maintain availability for clinical concerns and coordinate coverage during absences
- Develop and review clinical policies, medication management protocols, and urgent-care procedures
- Participate in chart reviews, quality improvement activities, incident reviews, and corrective action planning
- Support compliance with Maryland regulations, payer requirements, and accreditation standards
- Support referrals, clinical handoffs, discharge planning, and continuity of care
- Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments
- Develop individualized treatment plans
- Provide medication management, including prescribing, adjusting, and monitoring psychotropic medications
- Conduct follow-up appointments and modify treatment plans as needed
- Provide psychoeducation to clients and families
- Collaborate with therapists, psychiatric rehabilitation staff, case managers, and other care team members
- Maintain timely, accurate, and thorough electronic health record documentation
- Conduct risk assessments, crisis intervention, safety planning, and referrals to higher levels of care
- Stay current with evidence-based psychiatric practices and professional standards through ongoing education
Requirements
What you’ll need- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency
- Active, unrestricted Maryland medical license
- Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry
- Current prescribing credentials and registrations appropriate to assigned duties
- Experience providing outpatient psychiatric care
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, documentation, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to meet required on-site hours and agreed clinical consultation and leadership responsibilities
- Ability to complete required credentialing and background screening
- At least three years of psychiatric practice experience (preferred)
- Previous leadership, clinical supervisory, or Medical Director experience (preferred)
- Experience in community-based behavioral health and serving underserved populations (preferred)
- Experience treating children, adolescents, and adults (preferred)
- Experience treating serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders (preferred)
- Familiarity with Maryland’s public behavioral health system, psychiatric rehabilitation services, and accreditation processes (preferred)
