About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, and deploy backend services and features using Ruby on Rails
Own well-scoped backend work end-to-end
Design and architect scalable systems and databases
Collaborate with product managers, front-end engineers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into tested code
Implement core platform features with attention to performance, reliability, and maintainability
Leverage and extend AI tooling to accelerate backend delivery
Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback
Mentor peers
Build automated test coverage and maintain CI/CD pipelines
Troubleshoot and debug production issues
Own and contribute to integrations with pharmaceutical partners, hubs, and pharmacies

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical work experience
5+ years of experience in backend software development
Proficiency in Ruby and Ruby on Rails
Solid understanding of relational databases, including PostgreSQL schema design and efficient queries
Experience designing and consuming JSON APIs
Experience with backend testing frameworks
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
Experience building background jobs with Redis and Sidekiq
Expertise in scalable backend systems
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
Clear communication and ability to articulate technical decisions and trade-offs
Strong understanding of security, including PHI, authentication, and safe production changes
