About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the flow from business stakeholder requests to structured Jira epics, stories, and acceptance criteria
- Ensure requirements are complete, sized, and understood by engineering before sprint commitment
- Partner with product owners, architects, and business analysts to translate business intent into buildable specifications
- Maintain a healthy, prioritized backlog across active product streams
- Facilitate design-to-development handoffs and ensure UI/UX specifications, wireframes, and data models are implementable
- Run daily standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and agile ceremonies across internal and vendor teams
- Own sprint velocity, burn-down tracking, and capacity planning
- Drive release cadence, manage go/no-go decisions, coordinate QA acceptance, and ensure production readiness
- Identify and escalate blockers before they become schedule risks
- Maintain delivery dashboards and provide weekly progress visibility to the CIO
- Own production release change management, including approvals, test evidence, and Jira-to-deployment traceability
- Improve delivery processes using retrospectives, delivery metrics, and stakeholder feedback
- Directly manage approximately five internal FTE engineers across web application development, data engineering, Salesforce development, and QA
- Own performance reviews, career development, 1:1s, and professional growth planning
- Recruit and onboard new engineering hires
- Foster ownership, craftsmanship, and accountability
- Manage day-to-day delivery relationships with the primary offshore development partner
- Hold vendor teams accountable to sprint commitments, quality standards, and communication cadence
- Track vendor velocity, identify underperformance, and escalate commercial concerns to the CIO
- Coordinate onboarding for supplemental staff-augmentation engineering resources
- Serve as the primary engineering liaison to business stakeholders, product owners, and the CIO
- Collaborate with architecture partners on design decisions and delivery feasibility
- Coordinate with IT Operations on deployment dependencies and environment readiness
- Participate in strategic planning as the voice of engineering capacity and delivery feasibility
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years in software engineering or engineering management
- At least 2 years directly managing engineering teams
- Experience managing vendor/offshore development teams alongside internal FTEs
- Strong Jira and agile process expertise
- Experience building and maintaining healthy backlogs, running sprint ceremonies, and using Jira as a management tool
- Healthcare, insurance, or regulated-industry experience
- Understanding of sensitive data handling and audit trails
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to translate between business stakeholders and engineers
- Ability to write clear acceptance criteria and run effective meetings
- Experience working in organizations between 50–500 employees
- Salesforce development environment knowledge, including Experience Cloud, Apex, and LWC (preferred)
- AWS cloud services knowledge, particularly web application hosting, serverless architectures, and regulation-compliant infrastructure (preferred)
- Healthcare technology experience, including EHR integrations, patient portals, provider-facing tools, and care coordination platforms (preferred)
- Platform migration or modernization experience (preferred)
- Must be a US citizen or authorized to work in the US as a full-time employee
- Must be willing to work without visa sponsorship
