About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare and/or review month-end financial statements with supporting schedules/spreadsheets for properties across the regional portfolio to ensure compliance with GAAP
  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for Property Management and Leasing teams for all aspects of Accounting & Reporting
  • Support internal stakeholders with appropriate accounting data to help achieve Company objectives
  • Provide leadership and support to other property accountants and act as liaison between staff and management
  • Assist with portfolio-wide projects and analysis outside the assigned regional allocation of properties
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures for the Property Accounting team
  • Provide supplemental training for select job duties to new team members
  • Upskill to use technology solutions and analytics tools effectively
  • Share knowledge and expertise with the Property Accounting team
  • Review and reconcile key Balance Sheet and Income Statement accounts, including accruals, re-classes, and recurring journal entries
  • Perform GAAP-compliant account true-ups and submit tenant manual billings
  • Assist with accounting and recording or reviewing of leasing transactions, including lease commissions and percentage rent calculations
  • Collaborate with Accounting & Reporting functions on projects to understand processes and workflow
  • Assist with booking special accounting transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Accounting or closely related discipline
  • Advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic proficiency with accounting software
  • Ability to research and determine appropriate accounting treatment for various transactions
  • Intermediate knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and related accounting concepts
  • Ability to review and interpret legal contracts (such as leases) to ensure financial impacts are recorded in accordance with GAAP
  • 2-4 years of accounting experience (preferred)
  • CPA or in the process of obtaining CPA (preferred)
  • Intermediate level proficiency with JD Edwards (or related accounting software) (preferred)
