About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Act as legal counsel on matters related to the development, protection, and management of Regeneron’s intellectual property pertaining to manufacturing
  • Handle patent activities relating to manufacturing and bioprocessing across all stages of the development pipeline
  • Partner with scientists and manufacturing development leaders on patent portfolio strategies, patent filings, trade secret protection, and patent actions
  • Identify, capture and prosecute new inventions relating to manufacturing and bioprocessing
  • Prepare and prosecute global patent applications covering manufacturing and bioprocessing
  • Lead outside counsel on various projects
  • Conduct patent landscape overviews, freedom-to-operate analyses, validity assessments and patentability assessments
  • Present results and analyses to senior members of the Law Department and senior management
  • Lead US and foreign administrative patent actions, including oppositions, third party observations and inter partes reviews
  • Support due diligence projects, agreements, transactional work, administrative initiatives and policy questions
  • Advise on emerging legal issues and monitor case law and legislative developments

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Ph.D. in the life sciences (e.g., biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or related fields)
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice before the USPTO
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one state (member of the NY bar or eligible for in-house licensure in NY)
  • 5-10 years of proven experience in a law firm setting, with or without corporate law department experience
  • Experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the biological arts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to run multiple projects against competing priorities
  • Exceptional communication skills, including presentation, interpersonal, writing and conflict resolution
  • Ability to handle a large and sophisticated docket with minimal direction
