About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead, coach, and develop software engineers across the full employee lifecycle
  • Own predictable delivery and operational outcomes for products and services
  • Build trusted relationships with Investments, Investment Operations, and Investment Accounting leaders
  • Understand processes and control points across portfolio management, trading, settlement, positions, valuations, performance, risk, cash, securities accounting, reconciliation, and financial reporting
  • Partner with Product Management and Product Owners on roadmaps, outcomes, dependencies, capacity, and engineering work
  • Partner with architecture teams to implement target-state architecture and approved patterns
  • Establish standards for secure coding, peer review, automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, documentation, release management, and maintainability
  • Guide delivery of modern web applications, services, data pipelines, and integrations using cloud-native, serverless, containerized, API-first, event-driven, streaming, batch, and file-based patterns
  • Oversee engineering involving investment platforms and external providers
  • Manage vendor performance, upgrades, integration strategies, and build-versus-buy-versus-configure decisions
  • Ensure production services meet availability, recoverability, performance, monitoring, incident response, problem management, and disaster-recovery expectations
  • Embed security, privacy, segregation of duties, data lineage, traceability, logging, evidence retention, and control requirements into delivery
  • Manage team budget, vendor spend, staffing mix, hiring, capacity, and forecasts
  • Evaluate and responsibly introduce emerging technologies, including generative AI and agentic engineering tools
  • Communicate delivery progress, operational health, risks, dependencies, investment needs, and decisions to technical, business, and executive audiences
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience (required)
  • 9+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, application development, platform engineering, data engineering, or related technology disciplines (required)
  • 3+ years of formal people-management experience leading software engineering teams (required)
  • Accountability for delivering and operating business-critical technology products or platforms in a complex enterprise environment
  • Experience supporting investments, asset management, investment accounting, capital markets, treasury, finance, or related business capabilities
  • Experience operating in an agile, product-oriented technology organization
  • Strong knowledge of modern software engineering practices, APIs, event-driven architecture, automated testing, secure software development, source control, CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure as code
  • Working fluency across modern application, data, and cloud technologies
  • Hands-on understanding of AWS or a comparable public-cloud ecosystem
  • Practical knowledge of investment data and processes
  • Understanding of front-, middle-, and back-office operating models and IBOR/ABOR concepts
  • Knowledge of one or more asset classes
  • Ability to lead engineering teams integrating with investment platforms, accounting systems, market-data providers, custodians, and internal data platforms
  • Understanding of financial and insurance control environments, auditability, data lineage, access controls, change management, segregation of duties, model governance, SOX ITGC, and SOC reporting
  • Advanced leadership, communication, facilitation, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and dependencies and make timely decisions with incomplete information
