About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as a subject matter and program expert within the Sanctions Compliance Program
- Act as a subject matter authority and primary escalation point for sanctions queries across global teams
- Translate program strategy into structured workplans with milestones and owners
- Prepare executive-facing briefing materials for senior leadership, the board, banking partners, and regulators
- Stand in for the Global Head of Sanctions in working-level meetings
- Own corrective actions from regulatory inquiries, audits, and self-identified gaps through closure
- Lead complex remediation projects and maintain audit trails
- Maintain the sanctions issues register and escalate aging items
- Liaise with Controls Testing and Internal Audit, owning evidence collection and exam-readiness
- Track findings through closure and identify systemic program-level gaps
- Adjudicate escalated sanctions alerts against OFAC, UN, EU, UK, and other applicable lists
- Own the sanctions policy lifecycle and provide requirements for Operations SOPs
- Review and approve sanctions training content and lead company-wide training refreshes
- Draft sanctions control intake requests and translate regulatory requirements into technical specifications
- Identify control requirements arising from new products, corridor expansions, and regulatory developments
- Maintain the sanctions controls library
- Lead execution of the annual Sanctions RCSA
- Manage KPIs/KRIs and produce governance reporting for MBR, board-level deliverables, and banking partners
- Monitor sanctions regulatory developments and provide intelligence briefings
- Assess implications of new regulations, general licenses, and enforcement actions for screening architecture and controls
- Serve as the internal resource on sanctions matters
Requirements
What you’ll need- 4-6 years in sanctions compliance at a financial institution, MSB, regulatory body, or consulting firm
- Recognized mastery of OFAC's sanctions programs
- Knowledge of global sanctions regimes across main markets in EMEA and APAC
- Ability to independently issue well-reasoned, documented dispositions on novel or time-sensitive fact patterns without direct supervision
- Proven track record leading complex, cross-functional remediation from inception to closure against tight deadlines
- Executive-caliber written communication, including control language, policy documents, regulatory analyses, and board or regulator-ready materials
- Experience with controls testing, internal audit, or regulatory examiners, including evidence production and remediation planning
- Proficiency with project tracking tools and multi-workstream governance infrastructure
- Preferred CAMS or CGSS certification
- Experience translating compliance requirements into technical control specs with engineering or product teams
- Ability to work onsite Tuesday through Thursday each week under the company's hybrid-work expectations
