About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Complete Canadian Review Engagements under CSRE 2400 from planning through completion
- Perform small and micro Audit Engagements from start to finish where applicable
- Assist with or independently complete larger and more complex Audit and Review Engagements
- Perform analytical, substantive, inquiry, and other engagement procedures
- Identify unusual transactions, accounting issues, inconsistencies, and assurance risks
- Apply professional skepticism and judgment when evaluating financial information and management explanations
- Prepare clear, complete, well-organized working papers requiring minimal review comments
- Complete and maintain CaseWare/Jazzit files and PEG checklists
- Identify issues requiring escalation and communicate them to the engagement team
- Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for Canadian private companies and not-for-profit organizations
- Apply ASPE and ASNPO requirements
- Perform account reconciliations and investigate variances or unusual balances
- Review general ledger accounts, adjusting entries, supporting documentation, and financial information
- Support engagement planning, risk assessment, completion procedures, and documentation
- Communicate with clients to obtain information, resolve queries, and follow up on outstanding items
- Manage multiple engagements while meeting deadlines and quality expectations
- Work directly with Canadian CPA firms across different industries
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3–6 years of hands-on experience in Canadian public accounting
- Hands-on experience with Canadian Review Engagements, including CSRE 2400, is required
- Audit experience is preferred; experience with both Audit and Review Engagements preferred
- Experience completing small/micro Audit or Review Engagements independently
- Strong understanding of CSRE 2400 and Canadian assurance practices
- Working knowledge of Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS), ASPE, and/or ASNPO
- Experience preparing financial statements and engagement working papers
- Proficiency in CaseWare/Jazzit; PEG checklists preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Microsoft Office Suite
- QuickBooks Online or other Canadian accounting software experience is an advantage
- Knowledge of internal controls and risk assessment concepts
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Professional skepticism and accounting judgment
- Strong attention to detail and documentation standards
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple client engagements and deadlines
- CPA/CA designation or actively pursuing CPA preferred
- Experience working directly with Canadian CPA firms preferred
- Experience with ASPE and ASNPO engagements preferred
- Experience with not-for-profit organizations is an advantage
- Stable broadband internet connection; mobile hotspot not permitted
