About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform hemodialysis treatment procedures and provide safe, efficient, high-quality registered nursing care
  • Assess patients and document responses to renal failure and treatments
  • Recognize patient changes, adjust therapy, respond to emergencies, and notify the nephrologist when necessary
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans using a team approach
  • Communicate significant information among patients, staff, nurses, physicians, nephrologists, dietitians, and clients
  • Complete accurate treatment documentation, paperwork, dialysis logs, laboratory reports, and records
  • Verify treatment orders and administer medications as ordered
  • Obtain laboratory specimens and perform routine tests
  • Perform unit operations including setup, reuse, water checks, opening and closing, bath mixing, machine and station cleaning, and supply distribution
  • Delegate responsibilities and assume Charge Nurse functions when directed or when the Charge Nurse is absent
  • Educate patients about their disease and treatment and support staff education
  • Follow infection-control policies and evidence-based practices
  • Participate in CPR, Quality Assurance, QAPI, IDT committees, performance-improvement projects, meetings, and continuing education
  • Report errors, near misses, complaints, grievances, and improvement opportunities
  • Assist with staff orientation, in-service education, evaluations, and maintaining a culture of safety and quality
  • Maintain confidentiality, attendance, punctuality, email communication, and compliance with company policies
  • Report to the Unit Leader

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school or equivalent
  • Current RN License for Michigan
  • Current CPR certification, or obtain it within three months of hire
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English
  • One year of Hemodialysis RN experience required; two to three years preferred
  • Required experience must be within the past two years
  • Strong technical/computer proficiency with laptops, tablets, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, and similar tools
  • Comprehensive background check required after an offer for employees working in this position
  • Ability to work the full schedule, ranging from five to fifteen hours per day based on unit requirements
  • Ability to continually stand and frequently bend, walk, twist, crouch, use hands, and reach
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in an environment with possible exposure to chemicals and blood-borne pathogens
