About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as part of the technical lead team for telecom payloads for Small Satcom products
  • Design communications payload architectures, including RF and optical systems
  • Budget and maintain payload parameters, including mass, consumption, dissipation, and relevant performance parameters
  • Manage and interface with teams responsible for other satellite subsystems
  • Define and analyse telecom payload components, from passive units and RF active units to digital and optical components
  • Develop supplier relationships and define design, manufacturing, and AIT requirements
  • Define and prepare statements of work and specifications
  • Work with the program team to ensure design implementation through planned activities
  • Solve cross-subsystem problems to ensure efficient mission implementation
  • Collaborate with the AIT team to design and implement payload activities at subsystem and satellite levels
  • Develop test specifications and procedures
  • Prepare subsystem documentation based on architecture, analyses, and units
  • Develop subsystem AIT activities based on the architecture

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum 10 years of real-world experience with communications payload system architecture, requirements definition, flow down, tracking, and system-level analyses
  • Strong experience with geostationary satellites
  • Experience designing or implementing RF equipment for telecom satellites, including SSPAs, TWTs, distributed amplifiers, phased arrays, filters, switches, and other passive units
  • Experience designing or implementing digital processors, transparent or regenerative, for satellites
  • Ability to analyse data, derive conclusions, and manage design documentation and design-change reviews
  • Ability to trade off and optimize performance
  • Ability to resolve complex technical problems
  • Ability to manage technical work with partners
  • Extensive experience with relevant system modelling and analysis tools, including electromagnetic tools, antenna simulation, and general-purpose coding tools
  • Autonomous and proactive working style
  • Teamwork-oriented approach
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Security clearance may be required for certain positions
