About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Reporting to the Director of Underwriting.
- Analyze the financial position of client companies and support underwriting decisions related to surety programs.
- Review, interpret, and assess financial statements, cash flows, and other financial information to measure the financial strength of client companies.
- Conduct annual and quarterly financial reviews of companies in the portfolio.
- Analyze surety bond applications submitted by brokers and make recommendations in accordance with the company’s underwriting policies and standards.
- Follow up on and continuously monitor existing accounts by identifying financial and operational risks that could affect surety programs.
- Collaborate with brokers to address their requests, provide technical support, and deliver high-quality customer service.
- Participate in the analysis of risks related to construction projects, contractors, and developers to support surety decisions.
- Contribute to negotiating the terms, limits, and financial requirements associated with issuing surety bonds.
- Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with partner brokers, clients, and other market stakeholders.
- Seek creative solutions to complex situations while adhering to the organization’s risk management guidelines.
- Ensure thorough file documentation and the accuracy of the information collected.
- Participate in training and professional development activities to deepen knowledge of surety, financial analysis, and the construction industry.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 0–3 years of experience in finance, accounting, commercial banking, insurance, surety, or a related field.
- Excellent financial analysis skills, particularly in interpreting financial statements and analyzing companies’ profitability, liquidity, and financial position.
- Strong interest in the construction, real estate development, and surety industries.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work rigorously in a regulated environment.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in French.
- Functional English proficiency to review documentation and communicate with partners as needed.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a dynamic, growing environment.
- Excellent organizational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Analytical, logical, and process-oriented approach.
- Ability to quickly establish trusting relationships with brokers and business partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
