About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, build and shape scalable data platforms
  • Make architectural decisions and take ownership of platform outcomes
  • Structure Databricks platforms using Delta Lake, Unity Catalog and governance practices
  • Orchestrate data workflows and structure code and deployments
  • Build and maintain data pipelines from ingestion to consumption
  • Develop data solutions using Python, SQL and cloud platforms
  • Provide technical leadership and guide decisions between technology and business
  • Review work, share knowledge and raise the capability of colleagues
  • Work directly with clients to deliver real business value from data platforms
  • For candidates new to Databricks, complete a supported 7-month crash course involving certifications, client project work and internal knowledge-sharing, transitioning to a permanent contract upon agreed milestones

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience leading or playing a key role in taking data platforms from idea to reality
  • Ownership of outcomes and experience making architectural decisions
  • Deep understanding of Databricks, including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, governance, Workflows, code structure and deployments
  • Experience with Python and SQL
  • Knowledge of data modelling and building data pipelines
  • Experience with Azure, AWS or GCP
  • Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and cloud-based data solutions
  • Ability to define approach, architecture and first steps from vague ambitions
  • Ability to balance pragmatism with quality
  • Ability to raise the level of colleagues through reviews and discussions
  • Ability to influence technical and business decisions and explain trade-offs
  • Databricks certifications are nice to have
  • Databricks Champion status is nice to have
