About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee and/or perform all plating operations in the Plating area
  • Supervise other chemical operators
  • Ensure metal coatings meet thickness, adhesion, and finish standards
  • Train chemical operators in plating bath operation and troubleshooting
  • Take monthly plating bath chemistry samples and adjust baths based on chemistry reports
  • Maintain stock of production chemicals, packaging, and supplies
  • Operate and maintain standards and certification for the XRF Thickness Tester
  • Generate part certifications for plated parts
  • Update and correct plating process records
  • Oversee chemical cleaning and aqueous degreasing operations
  • Operate and monitor the wastewater treatment system
  • Maintain hazardous waste disposal and inventory records
  • Assist the Facilities Manager with environmental compliance and hazardous waste reporting, including Tier II, RCRA Annual Generator, CERCLA, and FORM R reports
  • Maintain and improve ISO-9001 compliance procedures for plating operations
  • Monitor departmental spending within budget constraints
  • Oversee chemical operators’ safety, work quality, efficiency, and adherence to correct processes
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Chemical Operations Manager during slow periods

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Formal educational training in Chemistry, preferably with Chemical Engineering/Chemistry degree, OR a minimum of 10-15 years of plating and coating experience in a production environment
  • Experience in environmental compliance and hazardous waste disposal is strongly desired
  • Wastewater treatment certification is strongly desired
  • Safety-oriented approach
  • Must be authorized to work in the US
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs.
  • Ability to work extended periods standing
  • Must wear protective clothing and safety equipment when handling hazardous substances, including chemical waste, acids, caustics, cyanides, and other toxic substances
