About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own, maintain, and improve data-intensive Python services and applications, mostly backend and sometimes full stack
Work directly with quantum engineers and fab engineers to understand their needs and turn them into scalable, sustainable software
Maintain data integrity through schema migrations, client compatibility, testing, and CI
Measure and improve user-facing workflow performance and platform observability
Build frameworks, guardrails, and patterns to help scientists and engineers use AI coding agents safely and sustainably
Keep users informed about priorities and roadmap
Mentor and collaborate with other engineers
Support Rigetti’s quantum computing hardware, fabrication, cloud services, and on-site deployments

Requirements

What you’ll need

Strong Python, with experience building and running production backend or serving systems
Experience working in large, evolving codebases
Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases; PostgreSQL a plus
Experience with AWS and a typical cloud stack, including Kubernetes, Kafka, Postgres, Grafana or equivalents
Track record of working cross-functionally with scientists or other deeply technical peers
Product instinct and independence to understand user problems, define solutions, and drive work forward without close supervision
Curiosity regarding quantum computing and what Rigetti is building
Scientific computing, data-science, or AI/ML tooling backgrounds are nice to have
HPC, national lab, semiconductor, or other hardware-forward R&D environments are nice to have
DevOps, SRE, or cloud engineering experience is nice to have
Frontend or data visualization experience is nice to have
Physics, math, or quantum background is a plus, but not a requirement
