About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct technical investigations, analysis, and testimony in commercial and personal injury litigation and failure analysis involving medical equipment and procedural issues in hospital or healthcare settings
- Perform human-injury impact analysis of vehicular accidents, mechanical failures, falls, and falling objects
- Analyze vehicular accidents and mechanical failures and reconstruct vehicular accidents
- Conduct human motion and injury impact analyses
- Analyze injuries from automobile, industrial, marine, and recreational accidents
- Perform occupant motion studies to determine injury potential and causation, seatbelt use, airbag interaction, and occupant positions
- Use computer and physical models to reconstruct accidents and measure load and injury levels
- Prepare clear, concise written reports of findings
- Provide testimony in depositions and courtrooms
- Conduct on-site vehicle examinations and provide written findings and conclusions
- Review photographs, witness statements, depositions, police reports, medical records, and chiropractic records to develop logical conclusions
- Research and apply pertinent literature and governmental regulations
- Apply mathematical and empirical analytical methods
- Work in office settings and outside locations including client offices, industrial, construction, and residential sites
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum master’s degree in biomedical or biomechanical engineering
- Minimum of 4+ years in biomedical engineering or biomechanical engineering with a master’s degree
- Less experience may be considered for candidates with a Ph.D.
- PE license preferred or ability to obtain it within 1 year
- ACTAR certification preferred or ability to obtain it within six months
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Cognitive problem-solving skills required
- Working knowledge of general PC applications and software
- Background in forensic engineering preferred
- Experience working in anatomy, teaching, or the automotive industry is helpful
- Ability to work regular hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
- Ability to work required overtime periods
- Ability to travel up to 25%, including some out-of-area and overnight travel
- Ability to perform required physical activities, including standing, walking on slope roofs, climbing ladders, entering attics and tunnels, and lifting or moving up to 50 pounds
