About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Investigate, analyze, and reconstruct single- and multiple-vehicle collisions
  • Analyze work zone traffic control plans, traffic signal timing plans, and traffic control devices
  • Prepare and present demonstrative diagrams, charts, and transportation-system analyses
  • Inspect and analyze automotive or mechanical parts for the origin and cause of failure
  • Document and preserve evidence from collision scenes and vehicles
  • Perform forensic mapping of collision sites and vehicles
  • Prepare written reports of findings
  • Present findings to clients
  • Provide expert testimony in depositions, trials, and other litigation as necessary
  • Inspect roadways, traffic signals, traffic control devices, cars, trucks, and other transportation forms
  • Conduct field inspections and travel to job sites
  • Collaborate and interact with clients during investigations and reporting

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required
  • PE license required
  • 2–10+ years’ experience required
  • Part-time and ex-law enforcement officers with 6+ years of accident reconstruction experience
  • Professional/industry working experience in traffic engineering
  • Experience reconstructing vehicular collisions using analysis, CAE-based tools, and test data where appropriate
  • Experience with collision scene evidence analysis and forensic mapping of collision sites and vehicles
  • Experience analyzing single and multiple vehicle collisions and intersection traffic signals
  • Ability to prepare timely and accurate reports and present findings to clients
  • Ability to prepare and present demonstrative diagrams and charts
  • Ability to provide expert witness testimony
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and independent judgment
  • Ability to conduct focused field and vehicle inspections
  • Ability to document and preserve evidence
  • Ability to inspect roadways, traffic signals, traffic control devices, cars, trucks, and other transportation forms
  • Ability to perform field inspections, move debris, inspect commercial and tractor-trailer vehicles, and drive to job sites
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Clear vision and depth perception
  • Ability to work required overtime
  • Ability to travel up to 25% locally/regionally; out-of-area and overnight travel may be required
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in engineering preferred
  • PTOE certification preferred
