About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build positive relationships with youth ages 11 to 21 in secure residential juvenile justice settings
  • Ensure youth safety, care, supervision, and emotional support
  • Help youth work toward becoming productive members of society
  • Perform direct physical intervention during emergencies according to agency safety protocols
  • Eat with residents during mealtime
  • Work at assigned juvenile justice facilities throughout the five boroughs
  • Travel between Rising Ground sites as needed
  • Work mandatory overtime based on program needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • Required high school diploma
  • Associate’s degree + 2 years of direct services in mental health or juvenile justice programming
  • Bachelor’s degree + 1 year of direct services in mental health or juvenile justice programming preferred
  • Successful completion of Safe Crisis Management (SCM) training, including a written assessment and physical demonstration of restraint techniques
  • Ongoing successful completion of required SCM refresher courses
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to work in-person in New York City at least 3 days per week
  • Ability to travel to other Rising Ground sites if required
  • Availability for any three shifts: 7:30 am–3:30 pm, 3:30 pm–11:30 pm, or 11:30 pm–7:30 am
  • Some weekends required
  • Ability to perform routine office and support tasks, including using computers, phones, printers, and climbing stairs
  • Ability to perform approved physical restraints with youth
  • Physical strength, stamina, and agility to support weights equivalent to or greater than the employee’s body weight up to 250 lbs
