About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, build, deploy, and maintain applications and services supporting engineering process execution
  • Own the full application lifecycle, including deployment, monitoring, and support
  • Build integrations and automations across the engineering toolchain
  • Eliminate manual handoffs and maintain data consistency between systems
  • Model, pipeline, and maintain data for process and quality reporting using Databricks
  • Act as product manager for applications and automations
  • Elicit and document requirements, manage backlogs and roadmaps, set scope and timing expectations, and prioritize with stakeholders
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, process owners, and leadership across Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies
  • Translate process intent into technical implementation
  • Manage AWS and Databricks resources and GitLab CI/CD pipelines
  • Maintain reliability, security, and cost efficiency
  • Document solutions and keep tools and automations maintainable

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience
  • Experience taking applications from concept to production use by real users
  • Strong hands-on proficiency in Python, including services, automations, and data processing
  • Practical experience deploying and operating applications on AWS, including compute, storage, IAM, and networking fundamentals
  • Working experience building and maintaining Databricks data pipelines and datasets using Spark/PySpark, SQL, and Delta
  • Experience with GitLab source control and CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment
  • Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of a tool, application, or automation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively across time zones and with non-software-engineer stakeholders
  • Comfortable operating with limited direction in a fast-moving environment
  • Preferred: workflow automation or low-code platforms
  • Preferred: requirements and issue management tools such as Jira, Codebeamer, Polarion, or DOORS and their APIs
  • Preferred: dashboards and reporting layers such as Databricks dashboards, Power BI, or Tableau
  • Preferred: Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tooling
  • Preferred: modern front-end framework
  • Preferred: automotive or regulated/safety-critical engineering experience
