About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the technical direction for configuration tooling, validation, and delivery infrastructure
  • Translate platform architecture into a sequenced roadmap and drive it to completion across teams
  • Simplify the platform by consolidating redundant mechanisms, retiring legacy pathways, and reducing coordination costs
  • Design compatibility strategies for data contracts deployed to devices in the field
  • Build automated enforcement for safe schema evolution
  • Architect validation and release pipelines with layered checks, staged rollouts, and observability
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for production configuration issues
  • Lead root cause analysis during launches and field events and convert incidents into systemic prevention
  • Drive alignment across firmware, cloud, diagnostics, manufacturing, and partner-brand stakeholders
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, technical writing standards, and decision records
  • Grow mid-level engineers toward ownership
  • Maintain accountability for the long-term maintenance cost of shipped systems

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • Demonstrated ownership of a platform, infrastructure, or developer-facing system used by many teams
  • Track record of leading cross-team technical initiatives from proposal through delivery, including deprecating or migrating entrenched systems
  • Deep experience with serialization formats such as Protocol Buffers
  • Ability to design schemas with strict backward and forward compatibility guarantees for devices that cannot be force-updated
  • Strong Python and working C literacy
  • Real depth in a modern build system such as Bazel, including writing rules and repository-level integration
  • Mature CI/CD and release engineering judgment
  • Ability to design validation gates and rollout mechanics that encode correctness in automation
  • Sound judgment under production pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to explain tradeoffs to non-software audiences and write durable decision documents
  • Automotive or embedded domain experience preferred, including UDS diagnostics, vehicle variant coding, factory provisioning, or OTA update systems
  • Rust experience preferred
  • Experience in multi-company or partner-engineering environments preferred
  • Experience with code generation toolchains such as protoc plugins or template-based generators preferred
  • Familiarity with manifest-based multi-repository workflows preferred
