About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Independently manage end-to-end payroll delivery for an assigned portfolio of clients
- Serve as the primary day-to-day client contact
- Process complex payrolls and research payroll and tax issues
- Reconcile payroll results and coordinate quarter-end and year-end activities
- Help clients use payroll systems and processes effectively
- Apply judgment to resolve payroll discrepancies and escalate material risks, legal interpretation issues, or scope changes
- Review work completed by Payroll Specialists and provide day-to-day guidance
- Process payrolls accurately and timely for assigned clients
- Assist with setup and integration of new payroll clients
- Respond to and resolve tax notices
- Process payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and pay-rate changes
- Process payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other deductions
- Maintain client and employee data
- Organize, analyze, and interpret information according to client circumstances
- Provide ongoing client training and education regarding online services and technologies
- Resolve complex payroll issues and client inquiries
- Supervise and mentor junior team members
- Participate in strategic planning and suggest payroll process improvements
- Review quarterly and year-end payroll tax reporting, including 941, W-2, and W-2c
- Develop and maintain expert knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations
- Participate in continuous learning and research to improve technical expertise
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience managing multiple payrolls, entities, or client accounts with overlapping deadlines
- Excellent organization skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work accordingly
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong client service focus
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work autonomously under the pressure of tight deadlines and multiple priorities
- Associate degree in accounting, business, human resources, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Three or more years of payroll-processing experience, including responsibility for full-cycle payroll
- Fundamental Payroll Certification or Certified Payroll Professional designation
- Must have valid driver's license
- Ability to remain in a stationary position as needed
- Ability to occasionally move about inside the office
- Ability to constantly operate a computer and office productivity machinery
- Ability to communicate professionally and exchange information with internal and external actors
- Ability to lift/carry up to 20 pounds
- Ability to work outside normal business hours and weekends as needed
