About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist the Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent or Coordinator with preventive maintenance and repairs of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment associated with water treatment, water distribution, wastewater treatment, or wastewater collection systems
  • Service, maintain, and repair water treatment and conveyance units, mechanical equipment, electrical circuits, and associated instrumentation
  • Work with staff, vendors, and contractors to maintain Jack Turner Dam, water plant mechanical facilities, electrical and electronic equipment, SCADA systems, chemical process controls, environmental lab, and related equipment
  • Perform preventive and scheduled maintenance, replace parts, and repair ozone generators, clarifiers, GAC filters, liquid oxygen systems, pumps, chemical and line feed systems, gear reducers, motors, vacuum lines, dehumidifiers, blowers, generators, and other related equipment
  • Troubleshoot telemetry computers and malfunctioning electrical, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems
  • Assist licensed electricians with high-voltage electrical work
  • Coordinate and participate in daily maintenance work with plant operations, electrical, instrumentation, and control maintenance groups
  • Coordinate and monitor new construction, installation, and modification of water production facilities, storage tanks, pump stations, and pressure monitoring stations
  • Attend meetings, submit code regulations, and oversee mechanical aspects of projects
  • Serve as acting supervisor in the supervisor's absence
  • Perform takedown and cleaning of water or wastewater train systems
  • Provide 24-hour on-call emergency duty coverage

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of mechanical maintenance and repair experience
  • Experience providing knowledge of operational and safety regulations pertaining to water treatment and conveyance systems or wastewater treatment and collections systems and general maintenance
  • Current and valid State of Georgia driver's license
  • Certified to use a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and supplied air systems for entering hazardous areas, or must obtain these certifications within six (6) months of hire
  • Ability to work during intermittent periods of sitting, standing, and walking
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, reach over equipment to make adjustments, turn large valves, climb into confined areas, lift objects weighing over 50 pounds, and use tools requiring a high degree of dexterity
  • Ability to operate pump controls, forklifts, compressors, and crane lifts
  • Work indoors and outside, sometimes in inclement weather conditions
  • Appropriate safety equipment must be worn at all times
