About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide senior manufacturing engineering expertise for the Modularisation Development Programme
- Lead delivery of module assembly demonstrators and experimental programmes
- Support validation of module design, manufacturing and assembly methods
- Define resource requirements and coordinate internal, supplier and delivery-partner resources
- Ensure technical, safety, quality, cost and schedule outcomes are achieved
- Assess designs, manufacturing processes and assembly methods for manufacturability
- Align demonstrator delivery with the Rolls-Royce SMR modularisation strategy and intended module assembly approach
- Define, plan, monitor and control manufacturing engineering work packages
- Manage risks, issues and dependencies
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, suppliers and delivery partners
- Contribute to projects and work packages with budgets potentially extending to several million pounds annually
- Capture and communicate manufacturing knowledge, evidence and lessons to inform design and industrialisation decisions
- Work across design, manufacturing, facilities, quality, procurement, project delivery and supply chain teams
- Provide project leadership, technical delivery and functional people leadership without direct line-management responsibility
Requirements
What you’ll need- Significant practical experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering, including delivery of high-value or complex research and development, new product introduction, industrialisation or capability-acquisition projects
- Strong knowledge and practical application of design for manufacture and assembly, manufacturing process development, assembly sequencing, tooling, facilities and production-readiness principles
- Ability to apply safety behaviours and quality-focused engineering judgement in a regulated environment
- Strong communication, stakeholder-management and supplier-engagement skills
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams and provide clear technical direction without direct authority
- Proven ability to define, plan, resource, monitor and control engineering projects, work packages and technical deliverables
- Professionally Qualified Engineer, e.g. UK minimum HND/foundation degree or other national equivalent, in an engineering discipline
- Significant manufacturing/industrial engineering experience, particularly in a regulated environment such as nuclear, aerospace or defence
- BPSS clearance required
- Participation in DBS and basic financial probity checks required
- Recognised professional engineering accreditation, e.g. ECUK IEng or CEng, preferred
- Professional qualification in project management, e.g. APM PMQ, PRINCE2 Practitioner or PMP, desirable
