About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Implement and test MCP tools in Python and FastMCP covering the quote lifecycle, coverages, legal disclosures, handoff, and post-handoff readback
  • Integrate with Root's Bind API in a sandbox environment, including token handling and asynchronous operations
  • Build and run an agent evaluation suite using golden-path transcripts to verify that an AI agent can reliably drive the full quote flow
  • Make the server discoverable through the MCP Registry, /.well-known/mcp.json, and llms.txt
  • Write tool documentation usable by agents without external documentation
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and team rituals
  • Present work at the end-of-internship showcase
  • Report to the Engineering Strategy & Operations manager, with day-to-day technical mentorship from a Staff engineer on the AI Enablement team

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Comfortable writing code in Python, or strong fundamentals in a similar language and eagerness to learn Python
  • Familiarity with APIs, HTTP, and version control (Git)
  • Curious, self-directed, and comfortable working with AI coding assistants
  • Strong written communication; much of the work is documented and reviewed asynchronously
  • Experience with LLM APIs, agents, or tool-calling/function-calling preferred
  • Familiarity with MCP, FastAPI, Docker, or cloud platforms such as AWS preferred
  • A personal or class project showing end-to-end development preferred
  • Must be available for 550 hours over roughly three months
  • Must be available for part-time hours initially and full-time work during winter break, primarily December
  • Candidates must be on camera for virtual interviews
