About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prepare detailed protection and control (P&C) substation design packages, including protection and control single-line and three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials, cable schedules, and interconnection diagrams
- Develop and update substation SCADA and communication drawings, including RTU, relay I/O, and control wiring details
- Coordinate and review drawings with internal and external teams, including engineers, drafters, and project managers, to ensure quality and compliance
- Incorporate client and utility standards while adhering to RRC’s design practices and quality procedures
- Assist in developing standard design templates, drafting workflows, and P&C best practices
- Support construction and commissioning teams through as-built drawing updates, redlines, and documentation control
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in substation protection and control (P&C) design for utilities, EPCs, or renewable energy projects
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar CAD software including XREF management, annotation standards, and layer controls
- Experience creating and modifying protection and control wiring diagrams, schematics, and layout drawings
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3.0, and IEC
- Understanding of networking devices, relay I/O assignments, and communication configurations
- Strong understanding of utility and industry design standards (IEEE, IEC, CSA, NESC)
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment
- Must be authorized for full-time work in the U.S. or Canada
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working with minimal supervision
