About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform tax planning and research, resolve complex tax issues, and give recommendations to clients regarding the R&D credit
- Generate and sustain client relationships
- Manage and implement multiple projects simultaneously, including client interviews, computations, analysis, data gathering, and coordination of resources
- Draft opinion letters, responses to IRS inquiries, IRS ruling requests, and other technical memoranda
- Develop an understanding of clients’ businesses and become a functional expert
- Help manage and drive the success of multiple R&D engagements
- Keep abreast of changes in industry regulations, maintain competency through continuing education, and obtain additional professional certifications
- Apply strong knowledge of Sections 41 and 174
- Scope taxpayers for potential business opportunities
- Perform detailed final reviews of tax workpapers and engagement deliverables
- Onboard new staff members and ensure on-the-job training is delivered
- Train, mentor, and develop staff
- Assist in continuous improvements of processes and models and provide feedback
- Provide training and guidance to staff by walking through review comments
- Stay current on tax practices, industry developments, and changes in tax law
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Master’s
- Minimum 7 years of experience in public accounting, or a combination of public accounting and industry
- Experience in moderate to complex federal and state R&D tax credit calculations
- Ability to work closely with the Onshore team to answer questions or collect necessary information for tax service requirements
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
- Advanced Excel and Access skills
- EA or CPA required
- Experience in US Tax R&D
- Knowledge of Sec 41 and Sec 174
- Experience in Quantitative part of the R&D
- Experience working for large national accounting firm in a specialized practice area
- Experience in interacting with clients directly is an added advantage
