About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive technology breakthroughs and integrate technologies into RTX Programs of Record
  • Develop and demonstrate advanced capabilities for the Department of War
  • Identify connections between stakeholder opportunities and technical team capabilities
  • Lead, manage, and grow a high-performing interdisciplinary team
  • Pursue funding from technology-focused government agencies, including ONR, DoD service labs, and acquisition organizations
  • Apply statistical, cyclostationary, and adaptive signal processing techniques
  • Perform RF propagation and signature modeling
  • Develop sensing capabilities including sparse array processing, beamforming, direction finding, filtering, and tracking
  • Work with range-Doppler radar and synthetic aperture radar
  • Develop signal classification and recognition capabilities
  • Design and analyze physical-layer communications, including modulation, channel estimation, MIMO, equalization, forward error correction, and decoding
  • Write and review classified government technical specifications
  • Generate system performance requirements
  • Travel monthly to Arlington, VA from Columbia or Cambridge, as required
  • Collaborate with BBN research scientists and receive support from business development, programmatic, contracting, finance, and HR teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Advanced degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience building nationally competed advanced research and development programs spanning disciplines, organizations, and missions
  • Experience managing interdisciplinary teams facing significant technical and programmatic risks
  • Experience managing and executing advanced R&D projects, including organizational firsts or first known demonstrations
  • Background applying emerging S&T to national security challenges
  • Deep expertise in advanced electromagnetic systems, including synthetic aperture radars, RF edge processing, digital phased arrays, Rydberg apertures, and advanced antenna design, simulation, and measurements
  • Active and transferable U.S. government-issued TS/SCI security clearance required prior to start date
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Experience writing and reviewing classified government technical specifications and generating system performance requirements
  • Some overnight travel required
  • PhD in Engineering or related STEM degree preferred
  • Experience planning and executing complex analyses for DoD customers preferred
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills preferred
  • Demonstrated success developing future principal investigators through technical leadership, proposal writing, sponsor engagement, and Co-PI assignment and mentorship preferred
  • Experience with emerging threats and advanced technologies and CONOPS to counter them preferred
