About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly general accounting activities, including journal entry preparation, account reconciliation, variance analysis, and supporting documentation
- Support accounts payable accounting reconciliations, accruals, and exception resolution
- Assist with close activities according to established schedules
- Analyze general ledger balances and identify opportunities to improve account accuracy, streamline processes, and reduce financial risk
- Collaborate with Accounts Payable, Procurement, Cash Accounting, and FP&A teams
- Research issues, resolve discrepancies, and support process improvements
- Maintain compliance with internal controls and support SOX 404 testing, documentation, remediation, and monitoring
- Prepare and support internal and external audit requests
- Assist with standardization, automation, and accounting-process enhancement projects
- Identify process gaps and recommend solutions to strengthen controllership
- Generate financial reports and provide monthly flux analysis and quarterly flux explanations for SJE Memo and TBR
- Handle ad hoc accounting and analysis requests and one-off controllership tasks
- Participate in rotational coverage of ES group mailboxes and process journal entry requests, cost transfers, and accounting inquiries
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and 5 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience
- Experience in accounting software such as SAP, BlackLine, or similar
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- U.S. citizenship is required
- Candidates must reside within commuting distance of Cedar Rapids, IA, Richardson, TX, or Farmington, CT
- Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance preferred
- Excellent time management and organizational skills preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills preferred
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance preferred
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage deadlines preferred
- Strong analytical skills and complex problem-solving ability preferred
