About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and scale Runpod’s security organization across Cloud Security, Application Security, SecOps, and GRC
- Own the end-to-end security posture of the cloud platform, infrastructure, and corporate environments
- Establish the operating rhythm, culture, and technical direction for secure scaling
- Partner with Engineering, Product, GTM, Infrastructure, Legal, and SRE leadership
- Shape strategy and achieve or maintain SOC 2, ISO 27001, and HIPAA compliance certifications
- Translate regulatory requirements into technical scopes and measurable outcomes
- Hire, mentor, and grow security managers and senior individual contributors
- Embed security into the engineering lifecycle through SSDLC, threat modeling, architecture reviews, and automated vulnerability scanning
- Establish monitoring, logging, and alerting systems and lead incident response
- Improve MTTD, MTTR, patch SLAs, defect escape rates, and overall security hygiene
- Sponsor customer security conversations and manage third-party vendor risk assessments
- Integrate security testing and policy enforcement into CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
- Provide security oversight for GPU clusters, network perimeters, IAM, backend services, zero-trust architecture, and scalable infrastructure
- Coordinate with Infrastructure/SRE on secure provisioning, network isolation, and high-availability operations
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7+ years leading security teams, including managers and/or multiple squads
- Proven record securing high-scale cloud platforms or infrastructure products
- Ability to take complex security goals from concept through execution
- 8+ years building and securing SaaS, platforms, or IaaS products
- Deep understanding of cloud-native architectures, Kubernetes, Linux OS security, networking, and virtualization
- Experience building culture, accountability, and momentum across distributed teams
- Experience using operational security metrics, including MTTD, MTTR, patch SLAs, and defect escape rates
- Strong written and verbal communication and stakeholder management
- Ability to translate complex security risks into actionable business decisions
- Successful completion of a background check
- Successful candidates must be eligible to work in the United States
- Runpod is currently unable to sponsor employment visas
- Preferred: experience securing cloud infrastructure, developer platforms, distributed compute, or bare-metal environments
- Preferred: expertise in AI/ML security, model protection, GPU-cluster tenant isolation, and secure data pipelines
- Preferred: experience scaling security teams and SOC 2/ISO 27001 compliance programs
- Preferred: open-source security contributions or recognized security research
