About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform supportive duties for senior staff in state and federal historic tax credit applications and National Register nomination preparation
  • Provide support to senior staff for historic rehabilitation projects
  • Conduct site visits as required in support of senior staff and execution of Part 1, Part 2 or photo layups
  • Research and prepare Part 1 applications, including historic contexts and architectural analyses according to SHPO and NPS professional standards
  • Help prepare documentation for municipal applications for local review and/or Certificate of Appropriateness applications
  • Prepare cover forms for federal and state applications
  • Complete photo layups, photo keys, and other figures related to filings
  • Manage associated project files for Ryan records and client distribution
  • Assist with administrative tasks necessary for smooth office operation
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Conduct regular in-person and remote interaction with employees and clients
  • Undertake field activity and travel 30 to 50%

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with strong writing and research capabilities (in History, Architectural History, Historical Preservation or equivalent preferred)
  • Minimum two years’ experience with historic tax credit application projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, and write persuasive technical arguments
  • Work experience in comparable federal, state, or local preservation programs is preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and initiative working in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to conduct research both online and in archives
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently in a deadline-driven and fast-paced environment
  • Technical proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud suite, especially InDesign
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Independent travel requirement: 30 to 50%
